Guess it's been a bit since you heard from me last.  Prolly even think I don't exist no more, but things just got a little busy on this end.  But that's a little like tellin' Cel not to drink - ain't no point to saying it.

Uncle Nic's startin' to look pretty awful.  Won't say so - none of 'em do, really, 'cause they ain't much of a man if they're gonna be complaining about Thread being like it is.  But he's lookin' it Silas, and it's something awful.  Makes me glad things didn't go so well the last time I stood.  Could be me up there...  Damn, Silas, I saw a man with half a face and it....

Well I forgot what I was sayin', and I won't look back 'cause it took me nearly a day to get back to this.  Please don't go show my folks this letter, I don't want them knowing what's going on up here.  I figure they oughta know some things, but this just ain't one of them.

I'm gonna try and work it out with Uncle Nic to take some time and come back home.  Might help if you sent us a letter sayin' we was needed for something or another.  That way it's all official like - us coming home for a spell.  Be awful nice to see the boys - get some of the marks I lost back with Jo - you go and tell him I want a rematch and don't take no for an answer.

I know you meant well and all, an I 'preciate that you was really tryin' to help.  Uncle Nic's got a whole lotta stuff happenin' and he ain't said much - anyways.  I tried what you suggested an' I don't think it went...  She kissed me back.  An' it wasn't a bad kiss (I don't figure there are bad kisses) but... this girl is just not normal.  I swear if she starts talkin' 'bout kids and family and stuff... I'm so gonna come and kick you a good one.

Ain't had much of a chance to write you, so I figured I oughta find the time now, just so's you know I didn't take any tumbles from a cliff.  Things are mostly right, now.  Those folks I told you about before won't be bothering me none - didn't really bother me none when I figured they would.  They're very strange, you know, all these folks here and the things they do... That's another letter, though. You asked how I was and I'm fine, like I said.  Still wishin' you was here, though, because I figure you and me could have some real fun.  Hope your woman is still treating you right... one of the boys wrote and said he'd seen her cuffing you a couple of times and I know you ain't the type to hit a woman back... but like I told that one fellow who said he had himself lots of lady friends - if they're gonna be hitting you in the first place, well then, they oughta be hit back (don't tell my mom I said that, 'cause she'd come up this way and cuff me around and I don't figure I could survive that).  Old Itchy even said you got another kid coming and you figured this one would be your boy.

Alright, I'll get to the point now.  Been walking around it the whole time I been sitting here, writing to you.  Well, first I oughta say where I am - my Uncle Nic's weyr, if you'll believe it.  He's still gone off doing drills or some such, but I figure he oughta be back soon.  I'm thinking.... Well, never mind that.  Anyways, you can tell my folks not to worry themselves.  The eggs they had here hatched and none of those dragons had it in their heads to come pick me and I don't rightly know what I did wrong to turn 'em all away... but they all turned away.  So you tell them that for me, and tell them to tell Noa I love her and she oughta mind what mom tells her to mind.  Keep an eye on them too, will you?

    You'd figure I'd know better, right?  I don't.  An' I think - no, I know I just went and got myself into a world of trouble.  So you get to do me a favor and tell my folks I don't hate 'em (mostly) for sendin' me here and that I want Noa to get whatever you don't want.  Ain't got much, you know that, but I figure you can get use outta some of it (like that box I got hidden in the field... take nine steps from that rock out behind the barracks, turn to the west and take another four steps).  If you don' hear from me ever again it's 'cause I got beat up by a guy with good reflexes and a girl with a mostly-ok arm.  Tell the fellas I fell off a cliff or something and not that, ok?
